[May 4th, 2012] MOBILAB participates in tug of war tournament!

On Friday, May 4 the tug of war association Fam. Janssens from Retie organized their annual tug of war tournament for recreational teams. With an active puller in our group MOBILAB couldn’t lack in participating. Thanks to the enthusiastic coaching of Kris Cuppens, Dirk Vermetten and Wim Dewindt (which exceeded the noise limit of 100 decibels at certain moments!) the MOBILAB team with Veerle Creylman, Helga Vertommen, Inge Van Den Herrewegen, Liesbeth Declerck and Lore Van de Perre obtained a magnificent 4th place. At hard moments, the exuberant colleagues/supporters on the sideline gave that little extra motivation to  continue and to pull the counterparty over the line! It was a pleasant, tiring and inspiring evening! Next year we’ll be back!

[February 4th, 2011] MOBILAB Moves!

On February 4th we inaugurated the new location of the MOBILAB offices and gait lab, together with the 20-10-5 celebration of the orthopedics department. An open day and symposium was held with lectures on biomedical engineering, rehabilitation technology, orthopedics and related educational programs. In the afternoon session an overview of MOBILAB’s history was given, and we elaborated on its mission and vision in the bigger social context. This session was followed by a guided tour along demo-stands, the new gait lab and the new offices.

During parallel sessions the orthopedics department shed a light on its history and future with the 20/10/5 celebration. The bachelor education in orthopedics exists for 20 years, there is a collaboration with the Dutch Fontys University of Applied Sciences for 10 years, and we educate students who are specialized in shoe technology for sports and rehabilitation for 5 years.

After the lectures and guided tours the ceremony was closed with a reception, a perfect opportunity for networking.

Considering the large number of participants and the positive feedback we received, we can look back upon a very successful event.

Here you can find some pictures of the event.

A news team of the regional TV station RTV Kempen was also present. The video report that was shown on RTV news can be watched again below:

[November 28th, 2010] Flemish Science Week

3D gait analysis

During the Flemish Science Week scientific activities were demonstrated everywhere in Flanders.

MOBILAB in the Catholic University Highschool Geel is fully equipped to make 3D gait analysis. During this days students could work with this equipment and learn how it works. Different movements were registered and converted to a digital model. What can we derive from differences by shoes and braces? The measuring data were interpreted to look for the right answers.

[September 19, 2009] Research about elite swimmers in Flanders

Zwemfederatie

MOBILAB welcomed on September 19th a first group of elite swimmers. The measurements fit in a collaborative project of the K.U.Leuven (prof. dr. Filip Staes) and the Vlaamse Zwemfederatie (VZF) in preparation for the Olympic Games of 2012 and 2016. The objective of this innovative research project  is to estimate the risk of injury for 15 Flemish elite swimmers. Elite sport requires intensive training where bodily injury can disrupt the training schedule undesirable.  Through intensive training the joints of the athletes become very flexible, reducing body stability. Adjusted training schedules are necessary to prevent injury and to further improve swimming performance.
